Recruit One - Mentor Two

Founded in 1967, Virginia Beach Sail and Power Squadron (VBSPS) is a local, non-profit, fraternal boating organization dedicated to making recreational boating (sail and power) safer and more enjoyable through education, community/civic service, and social activities.  Our members are from Virginia Beach and surrounding communities in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.  Our primary boating area is the Southern Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. This squadron is a unit of  United States Power Squadrons®.

As a fraternal boating club, we associate with like-minded people who like boating and like to be around boats.  The boating experience of our members varies.  Many are experienced cruisers; some are licensed captains; some are primarily fishermen; some have limited time on the water; and some are still waiting to purchase their first boat.  Regardless of experience, all share the belief that personal and crew's safety can be increased through education and experience.

Some of our water-based activities include cruising to various locations, rendezvous and raft-up events, navigation contests, the occasional fishing trips, and we've even been known to conduct a blind dingy race or two.  We also hold land-based events such as monthly dinner meetings with guest speakers, pig roasts, picnics, cooperative charting events with results reported to NOAA, and if you've attended the Mile Marker Zero party, we're the ones running the crab races.  With each activity, we stress two things:  Be Safe and Have Fun!

Sound like an organization you may want to join?  Active membership is available to those who pass a qualified course on boating safety fundamentals.  Once a member, you can continue enhancing both your knowledge and boating pleasure by taking Advanced Grade or Elective courses.  We're always looking for new, energetic and enthusiastic members, but before you make that final decision to join, we invite you to check us out.  Come back to this website often, check our schedule of events, see if our idea of fun matches yours, and attend one of our meetings as a visitor.  Our meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month.  Watch the "Next Event" box for meeting time, location and program specifics.
